Ozone LM6: LIGHTWEIGHT HIGH PERFORMANCE The Ozone LM6 is the light version of the Mantra M6. We applied the proven lightweight construction techniques that have made OZONE a leader of light equipment for more than a decade to one of the most successful Performance-Competition wings in our range. The result, we think, speaks for itself. The Mantra M6 has gained a stellar reputation as a comfortable yet cutting edge wing that is a leader in the class and it has now been transformed into a lightweight vol-biv machine.
Ozone LM6
After 10 years of designing wings for pilots in the X-Alps race, our commitment to lightweight equipment development remains strong. The process of transforming the M6 into the LM6 involves an intensive optimisation process which saves micrograms at over one thousand control points in the wing’s design. The overall weight has been reduced to a minimum without compromising the strength and safety of the wing. The LM6 has full EN D flight and load test certification.
The LM6, like the M6, is by far the most advanced 3-line wing that we have ever produced. Designed for experienced XC/competition pilots who enjoy the comfort, safety and performance of ‘classic’ EN D, the LM6 will feel familiar and reassuring to pilots with experience in this class of wing.
Over the course of our testing and development, we have taken the 3-line concept to its absolute maximum, incorporating the best design elements of the LM5 whilst increasing the number of cells, modifying the planform and optimising the line plan. The LM6 has the extra performance that was not possible with the LM5, due to the serious weight restrictions demanded by the X-Alps.
LM5 VS LM6:
The LM5 remains in the OZONE range, and is the wing we recommend to pilots who prioritize weight in this class over all else.
With more cells, additional tensioning straps, and a more complex internal structure, the LM6 comes in at about 650g heavier than the LM5, depending on size. This increase is due mainly to the extra cells and longer nylon reinforcements that help to maintain the profile shape and improve the chordwise tension, improving the handling, stability and performance. The extra weight can be considered as muscle in flight. The LM6 yields a higher top speed and better glide performance, with a more compact and stable feel in active air.
Fully optimised for comfortable performance flying and featuring OZONE SharkNose technology, the LM6 contains all of the features that have made the modern OZONE range renowned for stability and comfort. With an aspect ratio of 6.92, an efficient pitch stable profile, a 23% total line drag reduction and a highly refined internal tension, the LM6 offers improved performance relative to the LM5.
Comfortable and intelligible feedback is provided by the LM6’s 3-line system which allows for effective pitch control through the C risers. This tight, compact and controllable sail behaviour further improves glide performance in turbulent conditions, the wing steps up through wind shear converting energy into height like a competition wing. Through the brakes the wing is extremely precise and responsive to inputs producing an incredibly compact feel which makes it easy to turn tightly and efficiently, even in the smallest most turbulent cores. This coordinated feel, combined with the high aspect ratio translates to superb climbing characteristics and high levels of efficiency.
The LM6 is suitable for experienced and competent XC pilots who spend more than 100 hours per year in thermal conditions, and seek a wing that will carry them deep into vol-biv territory. The LM6 is a popular choice for vol-biv adventurers and competitors in races such as the X-Pyrenees. We are confident that the comfort and solidity of this wing will make it a favorite amongst experienced Performance-XC class pilots, as well as Sport-class pilots who are looking to move up to a wing which forms an excellent transition to the competition class. It is a high performance paraglider that needs to be flown with the full attention and respect that any such wing deserves. An LM6 pilot must have a solid understanding of best practices for recovery from incidents in flight.
We’ve designed the LM6 specifically for vol-biv advetnures that require the higest level of performance. We look forward to your feedback on this exciting new wing, and most of all we want to hear about your adventures with it, so please send us news of your flights. Cheers, from all the Team.
